We must continue to be shocked and outraged by the violence of fashion
In their paper 'A Typology of Fashion Violence', Otto Von Busch and Ylva Bjerld, draw on Johan Galtung's model of violence. Direct, structural, and cultural violence are visualized as a triangle. Here there is a distinction between these different types of violence. Cultural violence exists symbolically and becomes the rationale or the justification of violence. Culturally violence is legitimated, and structural or direct violence becomes normalized, acceptable or, more subtly, non-remarkable. It is where racialized capitalism embeds its roots through 'othering' and creating them and us in the discourses and narratives that institutions are built on.

The metaverse has opened up a new world for fashion, but with it comes a difficult conversation about physically impossible beauty standards.
This isn't new in itself. It's been six years since the world first met Miquela Sousa (Lil Miquela), who now boasts 3 million followers. JADE & JADED is an award-winning web comedy about two girls trying to "make it" as health and wellness vloggers.
What better way to bring the show into the world than launching it at a leading sustainability conference. The show will also be available for viewers on YouTube, with one episode released per day from October 17-22.
SB '21 streamed the 6-episode short-form series — each episode under 10 minutes — for attendees to watch at SB'21 San Diego, sharing the conference's commitment to empowering the next generation of impact artists. SB '21 is a global event for the largest community of purpose-driven brands and leaders, offering inspiration, resources, and guidance towards unlocking the power of regenerative business. Integrating purpose-driven messaging was the initial intention behind the creation of JADE & JADED, so launching at the Sustainable Brands conference truly exemplifies how important both business and entertainment are in driving sustainability forward.
