Advancing Ethical Fashion in D.C.
The practice of sustainable fashion is multi-layered, but swap shops and upcycling workshops are a no-brainer when it comes to ditching fast fashion. In Washington, collectives that promote ethical fashion are encouraging locals to think critically about their individual consumption habits.
It's widely reported that the fast fashion industry accounts for 8-10% of global CO2 emissions, as revealed in a widely circulated UN report on sustainable fashion in 2020. Gigha is long and narrow, about six miles north to south, and its surrounding sea is bright turquoise, shading to deep navy over the nearby kelp beds. A 20-minute ferry ride lies to the east of Scotland's largest private landowner Anders Holch Povlsen—a Danish billionaire who made his fortune in the fashion industry—who has been steadily buying up estates to regenerate forests and peatlands and restore biodiversity.
How we make and buy clothes is hurting the planet. Here's a solution:

The impact of apparel manufacturing on the Earth's climate is certainly on executives' minds at athletic wear company Lululemon, which is choosing Earth Day this year to launch a resale program to take back worn garments from customers and sell them at a discount. The goal: keep clothes in circulation longer, limiting Lululemon's carbon emissions by reducing excessive production and consumption by consumers.

Why TikTok's favorite #haul trend isn't great for the environment
The #haul trend has become a social media marketing tool for fashion brands to garner more customers. Many of these haul videos are focused on clothes from Shein, Revolve, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Zara — companies that rely on synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester.
